About Me

Lou Portrait Sm 7.2
I’m Louisa Penfold – a learning curator who works with young children in art museums. I am currently undertaking my doctorate in the School of Education at the University of Nottingham in partnership with Tate and the Whitworth Art Gallery. My research is investigating pedagogical documentation as curatorial inquiry in art museums. Supervisors for this project are Professor Pat Thomson (School of Education, University of Nottingham) and Dr. Emily Pringle (Head of Learning Practice & Research, Tate). Further information on the research can be found here.

I have also worked on the learning programmes at The Ipswich Art Gallery, the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, Artslink Queensland and ABC Kids in Australia and Serpentine Galleries (UK). My Master thesis investigated intergenerational learning in American art museums, comprising of fieldwork generated in the education departments at the Dallas Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum and MoMA.

This research is funded by the University of Nottingham, Brisbane City Council, The Ian Potter Cultural Trust and The Graduate Women of Queensland Fellowship Fund.
